Can you separate between the fact and the added extra layers?

“Emotion, which is suffering, ceases to be suffering as soon as we form a clear and precise picture of it” Benedictus Spinoza

Oh my God! Oh my God! I cannot handle this!

Have you ever noticed that we often tend to exaggerate situations? How we add layers on top of the truth until we almost forget what the original problem was? Often we do not even do that on purpose but the emotions, thoughts and actions can be almost automatic responses that are triggered by the situation. Our mind starts to go in circles and we feel like it’s harder and harder to find the solution.

The cure is to become more aware of this chain reaction. Try to stop your mind before it adds the layers and try to look at the situation with as neutral eyes as you can  – without emotional reactions, extra meanings and imagined future implications. This way your body will stay relaxed, your mind will stay functional and your cognitive skills will stay scarp. You breath and will be able to see the situation more clearly. And as a result, as Spinoza states already hundreds of years ago, your suffering will get milder.

Good luck! You can do it!
